Have you ever thought of owing a gun in the United States legally? Probably, it would increase the safety and protection of citizens, not the level of criminal.

Today, unsuccessfully, it is the benefit of politicians only, not available yet for common citizens. Politicians need a handgun or an armed army of bodyguards for protection on the Capitol grounds, but not only them risk their life everyday. Frankly saying, you risk your life every time you leave your home.
According to statistics, people who lack guns or bodyguards mostly live in D.C. Seemed like situation will never change to better, but some time ago the U.S. House of Representatives finally voted to overturn D.C.’s handgun ban. The restrictive serious laws were proclaimed since September 24, 1976. Because of that, the District holds the title of the U.S. murder capital with a murder rate of 46 per 100,000 people in 2002. Of course, loyal citizens can not ignore the gun ban, instead of real criminals. First, after the law involvement, the situation got better for some time, but then it came back to 35% rate of murder. Surely the ban cannot be blamed for all the District’s crime problems. Management and moral issues always have to be taken into account. It’s understandable that no law is able to prevent murders and stop real criminals, only abiding citizens suffer and read “More Guns, Less Crime”. But even Bugs Banny said in “Space Jam”: “Give them a chance to protect themselves”. We’ll see what government will decide soon.
